"A job well done..." These wonderful Communication Disorders Graduate Clinicians did an awesome job providing free speech and language evaluations, hearing screens, a free winter camp to children and adolescents in the Bahamas.
The also conducted a teacher professional development!
This winter three Howard University, Washington, D.C graduate students from the Communication Sciences & Disorders Department traveled to the Bahamas during their Christmas break to volunteer speech and language services to children and adolescents across the Island.
Over the course of seven days, these young women provided over 50 hearing screens, speech and language evaluations, integrated therapy within classrooms and consultations with special educators. These ladies also conducted a two winter respite camp for 10 children with special needs.
In addition, these dynamic ladies provided a free three hour workshop on Communication Disorders: What it is, What to expect, Red Flags and Tips and Techniques to the educators of two special needs schools.
Their help was greatly appreciated and the CSD Abroad trip was again an overall success!
We look forward to our next trip in Winter 2015 and Summer 2016.
